Who We Are?
Why Agora?
Established in 2025, Agora for Cultural Development is a regional institution dedicated to building a just and resilient cultural ecosystem across Egypt, the Arab region, and Africa. Bringing over 15 years of expertise, we focus on:
- Empowering Practitioners: Providing specialized education in cultural management and capacity building.
- Advocacy & Policy: Developing responsive frameworks to overcome structural and funding constraints.
- Safeguarding Heritage: Integrating living heritage and underrepresented local knowledge into creative industries.
Our Values
Inclusion and Equity
We uphold a rights-based commitment to equitable representation across gender, geography, and cultural diversity, alongside the full inclusion of persons with disabilities.
We actively work to create enabling environments that ensure accessibility, participation, and empowerment for all.
Cultural Democracy
We advocate for the democratization of culture by expanding access to cultural life and enabling communities to exercise their cultural rights.
This includes access to knowledge, tools of expression, and opportunities for creative production, while safeguarding diversity, difference, and cultural specificity.
Collaboration
We adopt participatory and co-creation methodologies that meaningfully engage stakeholders, particularly local communities, across all stages of design, implementation, and evaluation.
This approach strengthens ownership, sustainability, and the long-term impact of our work.
Our Mission
Agora for Cultural Development advances cultural equity across Africa and the Arab region by centering local communities as active agents in cultural life. We work to document, safeguard, and activate their heritage within contemporary creative industries, while addressing the critical lack of Arabic-language knowledge resources in the fields of cultural rights and cultural development.
We further advocate for and operationalize collaborative economic models within the cultural and artistic sectors as viable alternatives to prevailing funding and policy constraints. By fostering strategic partnerships and alliances based on shared needs and resources, we help cultural actors and institutions build sustainable, adaptive, and context-responsive practices.
Our Goals
Empower Communities Through Heritage: Activating intangible heritage to improve the quality of life and support local identity.
Advance Cultural Rights & Policies: Contributing to inclusive, rights-based policies and addressing regional knowledge gaps.
Integrate Culture into Sustainable Development: Enriching educational content and designing practical tools for capacity building.
